Carolina Marín: “There is a very great enthusiasm, not obsession, for the 2026 European Championship”

Madrid, Oct 17 (EFE).- Carolina Marín, in the process of recovering from a serious injury suffered at the Paris Olympic Games, declared that there is “a very great enthusiasm, not an obsession”, for the 2026 European Badminton Championships. which will be held in Spain and “hopefully” in Huelva, his homeland, to be close to his people.

The Huelva athlete, in a period of reflection after surgery on the cruciate ligament and meniscus in her right knee two and a half months ago, is in no hurry to burn through stages in her recovery process to return to the slopes.

Marín, ambassador of the II Inclusive Games of the Sanitas Foundation in Madrid, does not know if she is “ahead or behind” in her recovery period.

“I’m meeting the times that the doctor, my physio and the team have been telling me, so so far very good. Last week I handed over the crutches, I’m walking on my own two feet, so I’m very happy. Being on the track It’s another issue. We will see it little by little,” said Marín, on the athletics track of the Madrid High Performance Center.

“It’s been three or so months since I’ve been here in La Blume. I’m right now training somewhere else because I want to forget a little bit about what badminton is. Once I recover and little by little my spirits improve and I feel like we’ll see if we pick up a racket,” he said.

“Right now I prefer to take my time with badminton and I prefer to leave it aside and focus on my things and my recovery. I want to take advantage of the time to do many other things like enjoy my family and open more paths for my future. That’s what I’m doing,” he commented.

“There is no need to run when you want to take three steps. In the end you are going back five and then it is better to go step by step. Time heals and will tell everything, so I hope it goes well,” said the player from Huelva, who did acknowledge that has a goal in mind.

“There is a very great enthusiasm, not an obsession, because in 2026 Spain is going to host the European Championship. A few weeks ago I said that I would love to compete and I hope it will be done in Huelva, in my land, with all my people,” he said.

“It’s a very big dream but I don’t know what the future will hold for me. I don’t know if my desire and above all my heart and soul will want me to pick up a badminton racket. Right now it’s a very big unknown, even for myself.” , so I want to give myself the time that my body and also my heart need,” he concluded. EFE
