Carolina Marín has been the protagonist this Friday when receiving the Princess of Asturias Sports Award 2024. The Princess Eleanorheir to the throne, awarded the award to the visibly very emotional player and recognized that “Carolina has won everything and has been exemplary in everything.”
The princess wanted to influence the years of effort, training y great performance that have taken the badminton player to the top in a sport that, after all, was “very little known” in Spain.
The only non-Asian player capable of breaking into the world elite of badminton, visibly excited, received the recognition from the hands of the Princess Eleanor while his mother, with tears on her face, applauded along with the rest of the audience.

“The most relevant thing is that the value is not only in the medals (even gold), but it is the attitude in the face of adversity and in the face of triumph what defines a great athlete”, highlighted the Princess of Asturias, in reference to the serious injuries suffered by Carolina Marín.
The Asturian’s career takes on greater value as she is one of the best in the world in a sport in which Asian players stand out. Furthermore, for the example of improvement after recovering from the significant injuries that he has suffered throughout his career.
“Carolina is an example of improvement, source of inspiration and transmitter of values, on and off the track”, certified the minutes of the jury that decided the award in favor of the Asturian.
The player continues with her recovery process after the torn cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee that he suffered while playing in the semifinal of the Olympics. Although retirement was considered, Carolina has acknowledged that this injury will not end her career.
