In the match for the second day of the UEFA Conference League 2024 this Thursday, Chelsea beat Panathinaikos 4-1 at the Olympic Stadium in Athens.
The “Blues” coach, Enzo Maresca, surprised by making eleven changes to his starting lineup, using a completely different roster than the one he played in his previous commitment. This massive rotation allowed the participation of several young people and second line players.
João Félix was the great figure of the match, scoring a double that paved the way for Chelsea’s victory. Mykhailo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku also scored, the latter from a penalty.
Panathinaikos, although they began pressing with intensity, were only able to score through one play in the second half, without managing to reverse the English dominance.
Among the surprises on the roster, the good level of Danish goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen stood out, who returned to compete after recovering from a head injury, suffered in a game with his country’s under-21 team.
The Argentine champion of America, Enzo Fernández, and the European champion with Spain, Marc Cucurella, also reappeared, both absent from the last match between Chelsea and Liverpool in the Premier League.
This victory reaffirms Maresca’s commitment to giving its less common players a chance to compete in international competitions, while the team continues to consolidate itself in the Conference League, being the leader with six units.
