Badminton Germany can look forward to another graduate of the diploma coaching course at the Cologne Coaching Academy of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

Fabian Gruss completed the DTS 29 course, which started in October 2021, with flying colors and was therefore awarded the highest state certificate (state-certified trainer of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia), which is linked to the highest German trainer license (“Diplom-Trainer of the DOSB”) . At the farewell to the youngest graduates, which took place on October 9, 2024 as part of a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the coaching academy in the German Sport & Olympic Museum in Cologne, the 34-year-old was also honored as “best of the year”.

“Fabian Gruss represented the sport of badminton excellently! His performances in the extensive examinations of the past few weeks were consistently ‘very good’ and left a very positive impression on me and the trainer academy’s examiners,” said Holger Hasse, member of the board of the DOSB trainer academy and coordinator for the qualified trainers. Training in the German Badminton Association (DBV), the national coach of the Hamburg Badminton Association (HBV).

A total of 30 people from 18 top associations took up the new diploma trainer course three years ago. The diploma trainer course at the trainer academy is completed as a part-time course with a minimum of 1,300 learning units.

“We all know the importance of trainers in competitive sports. As a coordinator, I am very happy about this good result. I wish Fabian Gruss all the best for his work and will follow his future coaching career with great interest,” said Holger Hasse.

Fabian Gruss, who acquired his DBV-A trainer license in 2015, has already been or is currently involved as a trainer in badminton in a variety of ways. He worked as a state coach in the Lower Saxony Badminton Association (NBV) for around ten years and worked in the DBV as co-national coach U13/U15 for almost two years. In addition, the 34-year-old regularly passes on his knowledge at DBV C and B trainer training courses as well as C, B and A trainer training courses. Fabian Gruss has also been supporting competitive para badminton sports as a trainer for many years.

“Fabian has now also successfully completed Level 3 training from the Badminton World Federation BWF. In addition to him, only Tobias Wadenka and Thies Wiediger from Germany hold this license,” says Hannes Käsbauer, citing another remarkable achievement by the Hamburg native. The head national coach at DBV adds: “I wish Fabian all the best for his future activities and look forward to continuing to shape his educational path in practice.”

In addition to Fabian Gruss, Jan Surhoff (rowing) and Kerstin Sinsel (gymnastics, DTS 28) were also honored on October 9, 2024: All three completed the exams with an overall grade average between 1.0 and 1.2 and therefore “with distinction” according to the exam regulations. .
