The Korea Tennis Association was released from being designated as a management organization by the Korea Sports Council. There is also interest in whether the Korea Sports Council will approve former president Joo Won-hong (67), who was recently elected as the president of this organization.

On the 15th, the 21st Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court cited the Korea Tennis Association’s application for a temporary injunction to suspend the decision to designate a management group as ‘the effect of the designation of a management group is suspended until the ruling on the main case is confirmed.’

As a result, the Korea Sports Council’s decision last July to designate the Korea Tennis Association as a management organization will no longer take effect until a ruling on the merits is made. The Korean Sports Council will also bear the costs of litigation. The duties of the presidents of each provincial and provincial tennis association and federation presidents, who were suspended for two years due to designation as a management organization, will also be automatically restored.

In July, the Korea Sports Council designated the Korea Sports Association as a management organization, saying, “It is impossible to pursue normal business due to the multi-billion won debt owed by the Korea Tennis Association to Media Will.”

The Korea Tennis Association countered this and filed a request for a temporary injunction to suspend its effectiveness, which was cited today, giving it legal justification.

At the end of June, the Korea Tennis Association elected former president Joo as the new president, and received a full debt forgiveness from Media Will under the condition that ‘the Tennis Association is not designated as a management organization.’

However, the Korea Sports Council countered that it had no choice but to designate it as a management organization if it was not ‘unconditionally indemnified’, which escalated into a legal battle.

The court said on this day, ‘The debtor (Korea Sports Council) argues that it is difficult to say that the reason for designation as a management organization for the creditor (Korean Tennis Association) has been resolved with Media Will’s conditional debt exemption only. It is difficult to conclude that the dispute will be resolved or the creditor’s financial situation will improve,’ he explained the reason for the quote. He also said, “Considering the degree of disadvantage that occurs to member sports organizations due to designation as a management organization, designation as a management organization must be judged according to very strict standards.”
