Crazy statistics! The craziest season in history?

Whether it’s close games, historically strong rookies or a 180-degree turn in the NFC – the NFL season has some crazy statistics to offer after five game days.

The 2024 season is the most exciting in the 105-year history of the NFL – at least according to the raw numbers.

After five matchdays, more games were decided with seven or fewer points than ever before: 47 of the total 78, that’s over 60 percent. In 41 games there were only six points between the teams, which is also a record at this point.

But not only has the season been historically close so far, the rookie quarterbacks are historically good.

Caleb Williams (#1 pick of the Chicago Bears), Jayden Daniels (#2 pick of the Washington Commanders) and Bo Nix (#12 pick of the Denver Broncos) have a combined ten wins – the second most for rookie playmakers five matchdays since 1970 and the most since 1987.

NFL 2024: Historically good rookie quarterbacks

The quarterbacks played a large part in the fact that their three teams won more often than they lost (Chicago and Denver are 3-2, Washington is even 4-1) – even though all three missed the playoffs in the previous season.

Together with the Minnesota Vikings (5-0), Seattle Seahawks (3-2) and Atlanta Falcons (3-2), there are even six teams with a positive record that were missing from the postseason in 2023.

The four NFC teams (Washington, Minnesota, Seattle and Atlanta) are currently leading their respective divisions – a 180-degree turn in the National Football Conference.

The NFC North in particular is extremely strong. All four teams have a positive record after five game days (the Detroit Lions are 3-1, the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears are 3-2) – this was last the case in the NFC West in 2012.

And so far no one is really bad. All 32 teams have at least one win after five matchdays – this has only happened three times since 1970: 2022, 2018 and 1990.
