Crisis: ‘Problems at Zulte Waregem are piling up’

Zulte Waregem was in trouble last season because it failed to promote to the Jupiler Pro League. The ambitions have not changed this season, but the problems are piling up at Essevee. The Newspaper comes out with striking news.

Zulte Waregem is reportedly experiencing financial problems. An employee team building event was suddenly stopped because there is no budget for even that. The club’s employees were astonished.

Crisis beckons

A team building event was planned in the Porcherie, but after the first activity, CEO Michiel Beeuwsaert pulled the plug on the party. “Apparently it did not fit into the budgetary plans. But we work with heart and soul for this club and the organization deliberately kept the team building low budget. It’s absurd,” he said.

The employees do not understand that even team building cannot get rid of it. Is a crisis looming? “Okay, in second class the budget is smaller. But the way this happens does not immediately show appreciation for our hard work. We don’t feel that. This is not really motivating.”

Misunderstanding

Press manager Sciandri Jacques was also at the team building and spoke of a misunderstanding. “The club understands the reaction of the employees, because this should never have happened. For budgetary reasons, the board had no room for team building, but it was still scheduled due to miscommunication. An unfortunate misunderstanding is the basis for the discontinuation of the activities.”

CEO Jacques says that Zulte Waregem is still suffering the consequences of the corona crisis and is trying to save money in every possible way. “Like every company, we have also had to try to save efficiently since the corona crisis. The players spend less time in hotels and, for example, we shorten the summer internship. Unfortunately, team building will also be cancelled. But we have a very close team both on and off the field. Today everyone was back at work.”
