The departmental committee of youth, sports and community engagement medalists (CDMJSEA) of Haute-Vienne paid a vibrant tribute to the immense judo champion Cyril Jonard, recent bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games .
Welcomed at the Beaublanc sports center by Simone Lacouturière, president of the committee, the judoka, surrounded by his family, was celebrated for his exemplary career.
Simone Lacouturière recalled the impressive journey of the native of Eymoutiers, black belt 6 e dan, who marked the history of Paralympic judo by winning a medal of each metal: gold in Athens in 2004, silver in Beijing in 2008 and bronze in Paris in 2024 at the age of 48. A rare feat and praised by all.
The champion’s record is not limited to the Paralympic Games. He shone on the world and European stages during the IBSA championships and the Deaf-lympics. In 2004, he received the Legion of Honor from President Jacques Chirac, an unforgettable moment for him and his parents.
During this ceremony in Limoges, Cyril Jonard received a porcelain trophy, specially designed in his name, celebrating his incredible career. Regional, departmental and Limoges elected officials also took the floor to salute the determination and humility of a man who pushed all limits, both sporting and human.
But for Cyril Jonard, his greatest reward undoubtedly remains his family, including his children Athena and Naoki, his wife Cécilia and his mother always by his side. There is no doubt that we will see again on the tatami mats his now famous “victory dance” performed in Paris, which toured the world, Cyril setting the European and world championships as his objectives.
