Dalkurd’s Double Demotion: Understanding the Reasons Behind Their Two-Time Relegation

Dalkurd played in Allsvenskan 2018.

After a year in Sweden’s top division, the club was in the top flight in 2019, 2020 and 2022.

The club, which was founded in Borlänge but has been based in Uppsala for several years, has since dropped down in the league system. Dalkurd left Division One in 2023 and did the same in Division Two this season.

The Uppsala club would therefore actually play in division three next year, but that will not be the case. The reason has financial and regulatory grounds.

Dalkurd entered into a lease agreement in March earlier this year. Then the elite company DK Elit AB transferred the football operations to the association company Dalkurd FF.

According to the regulations, an association that enters into a lease agreement may not go bankrupt within 12 months of the agreement taking place. However, DK Elit went bankrupt in August, which stipulates that the association will be punished.

The Swedish Football Association’s competition committee has therefore decided that the team will be moved down to division four for the 2024 season.

The association comments on its decision in the competition case that has been drawn up.

“Given that the 2024 season is in the final stage, the competition committee believes that the forced relegation should only be carried out until the 2025 season, which based on Dalkurd FF’s sporting results in the 2024 season means that the association will be relegated to div. 4 for the 2025 season (i.e. including the relegation that will to take place on sporting grounds)”

In the competition committee’s decision, Dalkurd argues against the relegation.

“The association believes that a further relegation to division 4 would be devastating for the future of the association and the work that the new board has carried out to straighten out the association financially and organizationally,” writes the club.

While this is happening reports UNT that the club is again at risk of bankruptcy. This is because former Dalkurd player Irfan Jasarevic’s agent Martin Klette believes that the club still owes the player SEK 900,000 from his time at the club.
