A story is a way of telling the story by qualifying facts and emphasizing others, even and in some cases, inventing or distorting them to construct, distort or distort reality. And there are two stories that have marked this festive bridge in our football: the first assures that Colombia’s 0-1 defeat against Bolivia was due to speed, performance, the distribution of spaces, the creation of societies, pressures and compressions , the blocks and the lines…
According to the criteria of
In a protectionist fallacy, this narrative wants to prevent criticism of footballers under the assumption of disrespect and provocation. Never! That story states that Colombia played so poorly that the defeat can be explained by Camilo Vargas‘ seven saves. By simple logic, if Vargas covered them, then they were not a goal. In those seven covers, by unquestionable evidence, he was not lost.
The match against Bolivia, which is a minor rival, is lost when Ditta makes a mess – a mess! – and Borja falls asleep at the throw-in… They gave away the goal!
Data, not story. The game is lost in missed goals. Add up: four that Jhon Córdoba missed, plus two from Luis Díaz, plus a header from Roger Martínez… Seven arrivals from the same team that according to the story was a disaster.
That story was finished by Córdoba himself: “For me it is one of those games to forget (…). It was a day when they did not enter. (…) I am self-critical. “We weren’t lucky, especially me.” Without drama, adjusted to reality. And now…
There is a video turned TikTok of a presentation by Marcelo Bielsa, guru of the story of overanalysis, in which he says that as coach of Athletic Bilbao he lost the Copa del Rey final 3-0 with Barcelona.
“I sent Guardiola my analysis of Barcelona (shows a fat book) as a gift of admiration. Guardiola read it and told me: ‘You know a lot of things about Barcelona that I don’t know.’ But they were of no use because they put three in us! When I say that it is of no use (…) it is because I have already verified it countless times, that this (points out his analysis) does not allow us to win games,” he says. End of the story.
The supposed centenary of the Colombian Football Federation
The second story is the famous and supposed ‘centennial’ of the Colombian Football Federation. Facts: In 1924, one hundred years ago, the Atlantic Football League was created. The admired historian Guillermo Ruiz, recently deceased, imposed the story that this league fulfilled the functions of the Colombian Football Association (Adefútbol), an entity created later and that only in 1936 was the entity recognized by Fifa.
That amateur Adefútbol, in the family tree of our soccer, is the mother of Difútbol, since the Major Soccer League, the Dimayor of professionals, was created in El Dorado (1948). This struggle between amateurism and professionalism led to the disaffiliation of Fifa in 1966. The Colombian Football Federation appeared, as a ‘national front’ of football, in 1971.
It is clear that in 2036, 12 years from now, the organizers of this ‘centennial’ of the Atlantic League will not be in office, nor will those of us who do not believe this story be still in football…
