Derrick Rose announced a few weeks ago the decision to end his career, leaving behind years of success and great basketball but also difficulties and physical problems. However, his decision to retire has to do with a much more personal aspect of his life. As he acknowledged in his interview on the Club 520 podcast, one of the reasons that has weighed the most was his son, with whom he wants to spend more time from now on.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and I feel like now I have to dedicate myself completely to my son,” he acknowledged. «At first I didn’t know how to have that conversation with him, and when I told him at first he felt very sad. But when I continued talking to him he was immediately more encouraged when he realized that he was going to be able to spend more time with his father. From that moment everything has been love.
Rose has acknowledged that she used the relationship between Carmelo Anthony and her son Kiyan as an example, since it was precisely her son who spoke about them, giving Derrick the opportunity to tell him about his retirement. The point guard used Anthony to explain the importance of keeping the role in mind, both when training and in other aspects, something that his son, despite seeing his father as a figure to follow given his status as a professional athlete, elite, he soon understood.
