The Lower Saxony district league player Finn Krutsch has been awarded the Fair Play Medal by the German Football Association (DFB). The 23-year-old pointed out to the referee that a goal had been conceded.
For Finn Krutsch and his club, MTV Soltau II, it was about promotion on the last matchday of the 2023/2024 season. The team from Soltau (Heidekreis district) initially took the lead. But in the 57th minute, an opponent’s ball flew into the goal. The ball bounced off the back goal post and bounced back into the field. According to the Lower Saxony Football Association, the referee did not notice the goal and did not allow the goal to count.
Missed promotion due to fair play
But Finn Krutsch clearly saw that the ball had landed in the goal. He informed the referee, who then reversed her decision and corrected the score. Ultimately, MTV Soltau II lost the decisive game and missed promotion. “I have never regretted my decision and didn’t have to listen to any accusations from the team,” Krutsch told the DFB. For his fair play gesture, Krutsch was honored by both the Lower Saxony Football Association and the German Football Association.
