DFB team: VfB players could break ancient record

The VfB Stuttgart players in the German national team could break an ancient record against Bosnia and Herzegovina (from 8:45 p.m. in the LIVE ticker >>>).

With Alexander Nübel, Deniz Undav, Maximilian Mittelstädt, Christ Führich, Angelo Stiller and Jamie Leweling (post-nominated), there are six players from the German runner-up in the DFB squad – only three players from FC Bayern and champions Leverkusen have been nominated each.

VfB players could break the record from 1979

If all six VfB players were to play, a 45-year-old record would be broken: in 1979, five Stuttgart players were on the pitch in a German national team game during Germany’s 3-1 win against Ireland. A record that still stands today.

This is also made possible by the flood of cancellations in the DFB team in recent days: the Germans have had to cope with no fewer than seven failures, five of which canceled at short notice. Leweling is one of the late nominees alongside Jonathan Burkardt and Tim Kleindienst.
