Dirk Kuijt has taken his first victory of this season in the Jupiler Pro League. Hekkensluiter Beerschot surprisingly won against favorite Anderlecht on Friday evening: 2-1. It gives the Dutch coach some breathing space after several tough months in Beerschot.

The hard core of Beerschot only entered the stadium after 13 minutes, as a protest against the board. The fanatical supporters therefore missed Anderlecht’s strong start. Kasper Dolberg was very busy and shouted for a penalty when he was held for a moment. However, the ball did not land on the spot.

The opening goal fell on the other side of the field in the Olympic Stadium of Antwerp. Attack leader Marwan Al-Sahafi outsmarted Anderlecht’s defense and then coolly scored the 1-0. There was great joy in Beerschot circles.

Beerschot took a 1-0 lead at halftime, but lost it shortly after the restart. Colin Dagba committed a foul in his own box and after a long VAR check, Anderlecht were awarded a penalty. It was Dolberg who moored and brought the superpower from Brussels alongside.

Shortly afterwards, Anderlecht seemed to get another penalty after a handball by Ryan Sanusi. However, the former Spartan did so on the edge of the penalty area and all that remained for the visitors was a free kick. Beerschot weathered the Brussels storm and restored the lead after 70 minutes.

Al-Sahafi rounded off after a smooth attack from the home club and Kuijt’s joy on the sidelines was particularly great. A huge stunt and the first victory of the season in the Jupiler Pro League was a lot closer.

Anderlecht launched attack after attack and actually deserved a point in the final phase, but the brave Beerschot held firm. After the final whistle, a big party broke out on the field and the stands of Het Kiel.
