“Does football a disservice”

Felix Brych makes a controversial decision in the Bundesliga clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt. Referee boss Knut Kircher supports his colleague – SGE boss Markus Krösche has no understanding for this.

Eintracht Frankfurt felt disadvantaged by the referee team in the 1-2 defeat at reigning German champions Bayer Leverkusen. An alleged penalty scene involving Eintracht striker Hugo Ekitiké and Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah was offended by the Frankfurt team – especially sports director Markus Krösche.

Referee Felix Brych did not decide on a penalty in the scene in question in the 90th minute, and Günter Perl’s video assistant did not intervene either – to Eintracht’s dismay. After the game, Brych did not want to comment on the events, but later regretted it. The dispute continues anyway, also because of an appearance by referee boss Knut Kircher in Dopa.

Kircher supports Brych

On Sunday, referee boss Knut Kircher supported the referee, even though Ekitiké had been slightly pushed by Tah, Brych had “classified the scene within his discretion,” Kircher explained on Sunday STAHLWERK double pass on SPORT1.

Perl had no “other images that refute the referee’s perception” and therefore did not intervene, said Kircher: “Then it remains at the discretion of the referee on the pitch, which is what we want.” This is an important part of the VAR -Guidelines: The video assistant only intervenes if decisions are clearly wrong.

Statements that upset Krösche! “It is understandable that Knut Kircher wants to protect his referees per se. In this case, however, he is doing his referees and football as a whole a disservice. If, in retrospect, this action falls within the discretion of the referee, then this opens the door to arbitrariness that is damaging to football,” denounced the Eintracht boss in a statement.

“So it remains incomprehensible and unacceptable”

“Our game was a symbol of the missing line and the trials and tribulations surrounding the VAR: in the event of two relatively minor offenses in the first half of the game, it speaks up and intervenes. “Nothing happens in stoppage time,” Krösche continued to be annoyed.

The VAR simply has to intervene in such a situation. “So it remains incomprehensible and unacceptable. It damages the game,” complained the 44-year-old.

In addition to coach Dino Toppmöller also showed up SPORT1-Expert Stefan Effenberg in Steelworks one-two not very understanding: “For me this is a clear 911.” They too SkyExperts Dietmar Hamann and Erik Meijer spoke of a wrong decision.
