Dramatic bankruptcy! Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally lose Game 1 of the WNBA Finals with NY Liberty against the Minnesota Lynx

Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally made a false start in the final series of the US professional basketball league WNBA with New York Liberty. The team around the two German national players lost the dramatic first duel against the Minnesota Lynx 93:95 after overtime despite having a clear lead at the time and has to chase a deficit in the best-of-five series. Game two will also take place in New York on Sunday (9 p.m. CET).

As he has done throughout the play-offs, Fiebich was able to impress, scoring a career-high 17 points in 38 minutes of play at the start at the Barclays Center. She managed five three-pointers, as well as six rebounds and four assists. Most recently, newcomer Fiebich was elected to the All-Rookie team. Sabally, who was hardly taken into account in the semi-final series against Las Vegas, converted two free throws in her six minutes of action.

“We were way ahead, then we had a wild sequence at the end of the fourth quarter and didn’t start well in overtime,” said Liberty star Breanna Stewart: “It’s a series and we really wanted to win to keep home advantage . But the nice thing is that we have another game on Sunday and we will be ready.”
