The League Cup meeting between Tottenham and Manchester City was only a quarter of an hour old when the accident happened to Micky van de Ven.
The 23-year-old Dutchman got into a running duel with Savinho, flung himself to slide – and injured himself.
He immediately realized it was serious and cried as he went down the players’ tunnel.

Kulusevski behind two goals
When van de Ven was substituted, Spurs were leading the game 1–0. Timo Werner scored the goal in the fifth minute, set up by Dejan Kulusevski.
In the 25th minute, Kulusevski played through Pape Sarr to make it 2–0.
Savinho injured
In the second half, it was Man City’s turn to suffer an injury. Brassen Savinho, who has had a big breakthrough in recent weeks, had to be carried out on a stretcher with pain in his ankle.
