Ladies and gentlemen, here you are World Series 2024the finals of the Major League Baseball championship which will see the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers face each other on the Italian night between today and tomorrow (2am, live from 1.30am on Sky Sport Arena). Simply the two most famous teams of this game on the planet, two great rivals who have not faced each other in the last act of the championship since 1981 when the Californians won 4 games to 2. The Dodgers have been among the most competitive franchises for years of the MLB and won the World Series in 2020 (7th success ever). The presence of the Dodgers in the World Series for almost a decade has always been in everyone’s predictions and in 2024 the team coached by Dave Roberts has kept its promises despite the many injuries that have decimated the pitching mound, devoid of fundamental elements such as Glasnow, Kershaw and Gonsolin. The Los Angelesnians closed the regular season with the best record in the entire MLB (98 wins and 64 losses) thanks also to the contribution of the greatest hit-and-run star of this era, Shohei Ohtani.

Taken away from the competition of half of MLB in the winter with a pharaonic contract worth 700 million dollars for ten years, the Japanese player, deployed only in attack (but in 2025 he will also return to pitch), closed the National League – the league where the Dodgers play ; the Yankees won the American League – as record holder in the categories of home runs (54; the number 50 ball was sold at auction for 4.4 million dollars; all-time record), runs batted in (130) and runs scored. He only finished second in batting average – 310 to the 314 of Arraez of the Padres – a placement that will not preclude him from being awarded the title of MVP of the National. The eyes of all the United States will be on duel between Ohtani and Aaron Judgethe captain of the “Bronx Bombers”, a 2-meter giant, holder of the record for home runs in a single season in the American League (62 in the 2022 season). Not that 2024 went any worse for Judge: the Yankees outfielder topped the league in home runs (58), runs batted in (144), and bases hit by opposing pitchers (133). Like Ohtani he didn’t win the batting average (third with 322), but he too will receive the MVP award. Ohtani vs. Judge, the title of this World Series this is it, the two best home run players of the season facing each other. It hadn’t happened since 1956: even then the final was Yankees-Dodgers – a derby though, since the latter were still in New York (Brooklyn Dodgers) -, on one side Micky Mantle of the Yankees (52) and on the other Duke Snider of the Dodgers (43). The Yankees haven’t made it to the World Series since 2009when they won their 27th title against Philadelphia: needless to say, no team has so many successes; on the other hand Yankees is a synonym of the word baseball.
