Ex-tennis star is not allowed to build a boathouse – News

He played his last match on September 23, 2022. After 103 tournament victories, including 20 Grand Slam titles, and 310 weeks as world number 1, Roger Federer resigned and became a private player. The tennis legend owns a 16,000 square meter property in Rapperswil, Switzerland, and the authorities have now canceled a construction project. Federer wanted to build a boathouse on the property directly on Lake Zurich, but he is not allowed to do that now (for now?).

The responsible Federal Office for the Environment (Bafu) is silent about the reasons. The fact is that there has been resistance to the new building for a long time. The Rives Publiques association, for example, campaigns for free access to lakeshores. The city and canton had actually already approved the boathouse. It is a rather small project with space for an electric boat.
