Fans of 1. FC Nürnberg fill the stands for Hoffenheim – the wrong 9th team

1. FC Nürnberg travels to the DFB Cup game against TSG Hoffenheim at the end of October. The guest block is already sold out. Many club fans also stocked up on tickets for the game. For the first time in TSG Hoffenheim’s club history, over 20,000 fans could come to the Sinsheim Arena for a DFB Cup home game.

On Tuesday, 1. FC Nürnberg reported that it was sold out! All guest tickets have been sold for the second round game at TSG Hoffenheim. The Franconians received almost 3,000 tickets from the Bundesliga club. In addition, many fans of the four-time German Cup winner have already stocked up on tickets for the game in Kraichgau. Block F, which is adjacent to the guest area, is already sold out. Many of the seats in the opposite stand towards the guest block are already sold out – but in some cases not all areas have been released yet.

Less than 20,000 spectators twice

This is due to the limited audience demand at TSG Hoffenheim. This season there were fewer than 20,000 spectators in the stadium for the games against Kiel and Kiev. Even in the anniversary game against Bremen, over 4,000 seats remained free in the arena – despite around 6,000 away fans. The only sold-out home game was the guest game of German champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen. With an average of 24,890 spectators (Bundesliga), TSG Hoffenheim is currently in 25th place in the Germany-wide spectator table.

Cup record set against TuS Koblenz

The Kraichgauer DFB Cup home games are traditionally even less popular than the Bundesliga and European Cup games. There were fewer than 20,000 spectators in the arena for all of TSG Hoffenheim’s DFB Cup home games – despite well-known opponents like Schalke and Cologne. The attendance record for a DFB Cup home game still dates from the very first DFB Cup game in the Sinsheim Arena, which was completed in 2009. In the 2009/10 season, second division team TuS Koblenz visited TSG Hoffenheim, which won 4-0 in front of 18,050 spectators. Since then, there have been fewer spectators at all of Hoffenheim’s DFB Cup home games.

All DFB Cup games of TSG Hoffenheim in the Sinsheimer Arena

There were eleven DFB Cup games in the Sinsheim Arena. Most spectators came to the game against TuS Koblenz.

Note: *Due to the pandemic, there were spectator restrictions. Admitted spectators against Kiel 15,000, against Freiburg 500, against Fürth 0.

It is questionable whether TSG Hoffenheim, despite the many away fans, will break the 20,000 spectator mark at the home game against Nuremberg. There are currently enough tickets for all blocks – except for the guest area and the adjacent blocks.

The cup goes to the southwest

Cup games in the southwest have almost become a tradition for 1. FC Nürnberg. In the first round of the DFB Cup of the current season, the Franconians were guests in Saarbrücken. Last season the club played in Kaiserslautern and two years ago in Mannheim.

At the first round game in Saarbrücken, 2,500 fans of Miroslav Klose’s team attended the sold-out Ludwigsparkstadion.
