The FC Bayern star raised three fingers in the air and celebrated his first hat-trick for Munich. Once again, the 21-year-old was the outstanding man for Bayern, who easily won 4-0 in Mainz and reached the round of 16 of the DFB Cup.
Musiala opened the scoring after just 89 seconds when, after fine preparatory work by Leroy Sané, he deliberately pushed the ball in to give Munich the lead. As in the Bochum win, Musiala then scored with his head when he pushed a rebound over the line. After Sané increased the score to 3-0, Musiala made it 4-0 before the break.
Afterwards, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany gave his high-class technician a break and replaced him with Mathys Tel. Since Harry Kane also stayed in the dressing room and the game was decided, Bayern took things much easier in the second half. “I really like the way we’re playing right now. We’re getting a better and better feel for our new style of play. Our goal is to win the trophy,” said Musiala.
“Jamal can make the difference”
“We started very well. It was a perfect game. That’s great. Jamal Musiala brings a lot of fun to the team. We have to make sure he stays fresh. Hopefully he continues like this. He will get even better. We support him and will be there if things don’t go well. But we will also be there when things are going well and tell him that he can be even better,” said Kompany. The game was good, but not yet perfect: “For me it’s always about the team getting better and better.”
Musiala already scored two goals in Bochum last Sunday. The international is in top form and is taking Bayern’s offense to a new level. “Regardless of his goals, Jamal can make the difference. It is very, very difficult for the opponent to grab. If he starts taking photos now, that will be even better,” said Joshua Kimmich.
