Fifa sanctioned Colombia with the reduction of 25% of the capacity of the Roberto Meléndez Metropolitan stadium for the next match of the South American Qualifier contra Ecuador, scheduled for November 19, due to the discriminatory chants of their fans during the game against Argentina, on September 10th.
The sanction imposed by world football’s governing body will affect the north and south stands.
The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) explained that the sanction, instead of limiting the capacity, a “campaign in the indicated forums, aimed at interest groups.”
He added that “In response to the alternative proposed by Fifa, the FCF will strengthen the Tolerance campaign that it has been promoting in order to consolidate an environment of respect and support, while the goal is to eradicate any form of discrimination in our stadiums.”
He concluded that “The Federation reiterates its commitment to inclusion and respect, and calls on fans to focus on supporting our team in a positive and constructive way.”
