A complete success for the TNB and the pickleball community

Last Sunday, October 20th, the first TNB Pickleball State Championships took place – a historic event that is a first for both the Tennis Association of Lower Saxony-Bremen (TNB) and for Germany as a whole. The sports hall of the cathedral high school in Verden was transformed into a center of excitement when over 100 participants from all over Germany came together to compete in this up-and-coming sport.

Pickleball for everyone – from beginners to professionals

Pickleball, a mixture of tennis, badminton and table tennis, is delighting more and more athletes with its dynamism and simplicity. The TNB state championships were deliberately organized as an “open” event so that not only TNB players but also athletes from other associations could take part. Everyone from beginners to experienced players took part, which focused on community, fun and fair play – aspects that characterized the tournament.

Excitement in several categories

The tournament started at 10 a.m. with the women’s and men’s doubles. There was particularly great interest in the men’s competition, which was divided into two categories due to the high number of participants: amateur and advanced. This was a perfect opportunity for spectators to witness the development of the sport and feel the excitement in the hall. Another highlight was the start of the mixed category at 3:30 p.m. – this once again required dynamism and team spirit.

Excellent atmosphere on site

In addition to the sporting program, the culinary offerings also caused enthusiasm. Members of TC Verden and students from the Domgymnasium ensured that both spectators and players were well looked after – there was everything from grilled specialties to cakes. The relaxed and at the same time excited atmosphere on site was also impressive for Reiner Beushausen, Vice President of the TNB: “The tournament atmosphere with 110 participants was great. The event was well organized, with dedicated helpers and an all-round successful supply – there was everything from bratwurst to cake Tennis with its 1.4 million members can help sports such as pickleball, padel and beach tennis gain more attention and throughput in Germany, especially since former tennis stars act as promoters of these new competitive games.”

Successful organization and outlook

A special thank you goes to the organizers, especially Fabian Klöpper, who, as project manager, supported the event with a lot of passion. He summarized the success of the championships as follows: “We are very satisfied with how the first TNB Pickleball State Championships went. The response was overwhelming and we are already looking forward to next year to attract even more players to this great sport inspire.”

At the end of the event, the first TNB national pickleball champions were crowned in a celebratory awards ceremony. The atmosphere was exuberant and the participants’ joy at their success was visible. A successful tournament that was a complete success in both a sporting and community sense.
