Flattering draw

uncle. The badminton players from SV Unkel didn’t have their best day in the Rhineland League home game against BCK Heimbach-Weis, against whom the Rotweinstädter were actually slightly favorites.

Luckily, their number 1, Sandra Schreiber, came back from her vacation in time on the evening before the game and spontaneously stepped in for Tetiana Horets, who was scheduled for the game but was ill. But after a hard-fought three-set game – the only one of the day – it wasn’t enough for a point in the doubles match with Claudia Bauch. And the Unkelers Arun Karuvelil and William Unkel also had to leave the second men’s doubles to the guests. After all, the first doubles match with Skender Bunjaku and Claus Schulte was victorious in two clear sets. Claus Schulte fought in vain against the tall giant Caus Schröder and now SV Unkel was surprisingly behind 1:3. Luckily, Skender Bunjaku in the 1st singles and William Unkel in the 3rd singles kept the necessary calm and equalized. With their victory in the mixed doubles over Arun Karavelil and Claudia Bauch, the Heimbachers secured an early draw before the women’s singles was to be the last game. Due to Sandra Schreiber’s lack of training, she had few chances in her least favorite discipline and so Unkeler’s side feared their first defeat of the season. But her opponent felt unwell and decided not to play, so SV Unkel could still be happy about a draw, which could be very important at the end of the season given the balanced field this year. SV Unkel is currently undefeated in third place in the Rhineland League.
