Football coach: Jürgen Klopp defends move to Red Bull as “outstanding”

Football coach Jürgen Klopp defended his new job at the Red Bull concert after criticism from fans. “It was always clear to me that I wasn’t going to do nothing. And that’s when the Red Bull story came up. So for me it’s outstanding, I have to be honest,” Klopp said in the podcast Just lick it by Toni and Felix Kroos.

He loved all of his former clubs, he said to the disappointment after his move became known. “I don’t know exactly what I could have done to make everyone happy.” Klopp had previously been a coach at FSV Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool FC.

Klopp is set to become Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull from January 1, 2025, primarily taking on a strategic position. Many people view this critically and accuse the Red Bull Group of spending millions to buy success, but actually using football solely to advertise an energy drink.

According to the statements in the podcast, Klopp apparently sees things differently. “It has to be said clearly that I have never followed the Red Bull story so critically,” said Klopp. When he played against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, there wasn’t a player there that every other club couldn’t have had, said Klopp. In addition, young players have now been signed that any other club could have had.

After Klopp’s move became known, Mainz fans protested with banners against their former coach’s commitment at their club’s game against RB Leipzig. “I certainly didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes,” said Klopp.
