Football regional league team WSV lost 1:2 to Cologne’s U21

Compared to the 0-0 draw in Düren, Levin Müller and Timo Bornemann returned to the starting line-up. Niklas Dams was out at short notice and Benedikt Wimmer replaced him. Dominik Bilogrevic and Benedikt Wimmer initially sat on the bench.

Marco Terrazzino tested keeper Jonas Nickisch in the near corner (3′). Just a minute later the ball was in the WSV net: Maximilian Schmid was cleared and he gave goalkeeper Michael Luyambula no chance – 0:1 (4th). Cologne had a lot of possession in the following minutes. The WSV struggled, but was not dangerous.

Then the 22nd minute: Terrazzino hit a hook in the penalty area and was laid off, Kevin Hagemann safely converted the penalty to make it 1-1. The WSV was now better in the game. Terrazzino put a free kick from the corner of the penalty area well over the crossbar (29th). But Cologne remained dangerous: Oliver Issa Schmitt and Emin Kujovic narrowly missed the WSV goal (34th/35th).

He still found the target: Luyambula slipped slightly on a shot from Schmitt – 1:2 (38th). The WSV was no longer able to make a decisive move forward, Cologne cleverly played down their lead and went into the dressing room with the deserved lead.

WSV coach René Klingbeil initially didn’t change, Cologne had a lot under control. Luyambula had to fish out a powerful shot from Kujovic from the bottom left corner (54′). After a corner from Terrazzino, Pedro Cejas headed the ball over the crossbar (56′). The first WSV change came in the 62nd minute: Semir Saric replaced Timo Bornemann.

Dildar “Kadi” Atmaca and Subara Nishimura came on for Müller and Kefkir (72). Riccardo Grym wanted to put Cejas in the spotlight at five. but keeper Nickisch was careful (76th). Cologne’s Neo Telle, already warned, had to leave the field (80th). Terrazzino and Oktay Dal left, Dominik Bilogrevic and Youssef Qashi came (82′). Cologne kept WSV, who hadn’t lost at home under floodlights for years, away from the goal. Nickisch deflected a shot from Grym for a corner (90′). Qasji shot over the crossbar (90th + 2nd minute). Cologne played down the seconds and got the threesome.

The next time the WSV will be challenged is on October 25th (Friday) from 7:30 p.m. against Borussia Mönchengladbach’s U23s. This is followed by the cup round of 16 against state league club FC Kray (Wednesday, October 30th, 7:30 p.m., Stadium am Zoo due to exchange of home rights) as well as the home games against KFC Uerdingen (Saturday, November 2nd, 2 p.m.) and MSV Duisburg (Sunday, November 10, 2 p.m.).
