The basketball players from Hradec Králové lost in the match of the 3rd round of the ŽBL against Žabin Brno 64:82 and did not win for the first time in the new season. With the finalists of last year’s play-off, the Lionesses led a balanced game until halftime, and at times they even managed to keep ahead of their opponents. In the second half, however, Hradec stopped doing well, especially in shooting, and the visiting team managed to take advantage of this. A decent final quarter did not make up for the unsuccessful third part, so the Lionesses suffered their first defeat of the season.
They played a very good game today in front of the home fans of Hradecky Lvice, even though it did not lead to points in the end. They could have been disappointed in the third quarter, where they lost contact with the Brňanka team, who were able to take advantage of the weaker moments of the home players. The Lionesses had a famous start to the match. They stayed ahead of the clear favorites for the vast majority of the first quarter, and after ten minutes went to the first break with a four-point lead.
The second quarter started famously for coach Ptáčková’s team, at one point the Lionesses led by eight points. Zabiny soon managed to get back into the game, with only two points separating the two teams at halftime. However, the home team somewhat lost the tied game in the third quarter. With the score 45:45, the Brňanka managed to make a 12-point streak, which Hradec could not answer.
In the final part of the game, the Lionesses tried to return to the fight for victory, but the lead of the Frogs was already too big. Last year’s playoff finalists kept their lead and leave Hradec with a win of 18 points. Among the players from Hradec Králové, Eliška Žílova did best, she managed to score 15 points. On the contrary, her namesake Eliška Hálová, who led Hradec by points in the opening two matches, did not do very well. She scored seven points against the Frogs.
Hradec Lvice will play their next match in Chomutov, starting at 10:30 a.m. next Sunday.
