Francisco Cerúndolo (29th ATP ranking) was eliminated from the Paris Masters 1000. It couldn’t be for the Argentine who fell to the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (11th): the first set went to the Buenos Aires player but, later, one of the top candidates to win the title woke up and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-7 (1), 6-4 and 6-2 victory.
After the clash in the second round in Basel, on October 22, in which the Greek was the winner, they met again, this time for the Masters 1000. This time, The Argentine showed a great level at the start of the matchwhere his imposing forehand shots made the two-time Grand Slam finalist and former world number 3 doubt.
Despite Cerúndolo’s good start, his mistakes and the improvement of Tsitsipas, they made things more even and, in two hours and 23 minutes, the Athens-born even ended up turning it around.
The Greek, champion in Monte Carlo and Barcelona this season, now awaits the German in the quarterfinals in Paris Alexander Zverev (3rd) or French Arthur Son (20°). It will be his fourth time at that stage of the indoor tournament in the French capital, in which he reached the semifinals in the last two editions. In addition, he thus managed to qualify for the quarterfinals of a Masters 1,000 for the nineteenth time since 2020, the highest number that any tennis player has achieved in that period.
