From bartender to NBA professional: the story of Alex Reese

The last American fairy tale: the class of ’99 had abandoned his sporting dreams, now he will wear the Thunder uniform

It sounds like the plot of an American film, but it’s all true. Alex Reese is a new player for the Oklahoma City Thunder. And what’s special? Nothing, except that the person in question had put aside his dream of becoming a professional basketball player 3 years ago to go and work as a bartender. In 2021, in fact, Reese finished his college studies without being selected by any NBA franchise, and thus decided to go behind the counter of a pub, where he started preparing drinks. A year later he put his boots back on to go and play in Luxembourg, before returning to America to face Rip City Remix in the G-League. This summer here was the opportunity in the Summer League given to him by the Thunder, before signing a temporary contract to replace center Isaiah Hartenstein.
