At first provincial KVC Ardooie they will start a G operation early next year. People with disabilities are welcome to play their favorite football game. The initiator is Sofie Maes, who set up an operation at KSV Roeselare in the distant past.
“For eight years I devoted myself completely to the G-function at the Schiervelde team and this has always stuck with me,” says Sofie Maes. “A few weeks ago I released a balloon here in Ardooie and everyone was very enthusiastic about it. Although we actually only announced some things on social media, there are already two registrations. This number will soon increase significantly because we will hand out flyers in all Ardooie and Roeselare special education schools, but also at local traders. All ages are welcome, the intention is that we teach them to play football together. From January the intention is to play a practice match regularly, in the long term we certainly want to compete. Anyone in doubt can come and test three times and only then decide whether to join or not. What we don’t want to do is take members away from other G-functions, if they volunteer themselves that is something else of course. Our training sessions will take place at one shared time: on Sunday morning.”
Sofie receives support on the field from Paul Hautekier. He has been providing sporting guidance to Dominiek Savio’s football team for four years. “I also have a team of 16 players at the institute, but I started with 3 at the time. So I really know what we are getting into in Ardooie. And in terms of experience, it is also good with 32 years of experience as a trainer, even T2 here at Ardooie. In the meantime, I have also trained to become an official G-trainer.”
The municipality of Ardooie provides support. “We make our accommodation available to the G-team and they can always call on our sports officials Tom and Thibaut,” says Alderman Terry Callens.
