Richard Gasquet announced his retirement a few days ago.
He will end his career in 2025 at Roland-Garros.
Questioned by our colleagues from L’Equipe, the Frenchman returned to his passion for tennis: “I have always been motivated.
There is a love of the game, really. Tennis is not just about big matches. It’s visceral.
It’s another thing to win or lose. It’s surpassing yourself, annoying an opponent.
When I won the Cassis Challenger (a few weeks ago), I became the one among the three youngest, and the three oldest, to have won in Challenger.
That sums it up for me.
And I experienced a beautiful moment, with my father Francis by my side, as if history was repeating itself. It made me happy to come back to a club.
That’s the essence of tennis. It’s important to me.
I like it. I feel respect from the people who come to watch the matches.
And a lot of love.”
