Geraerts speaks for the first time after leaving Schalke

For Karel Geraerts, after making the decision not to continue with Union Saint-Gilloise, it was at Schalke that he tried his luck. But at the German club things ended prematurely.

If he managed to save the club from relegation last season in the German second division, he was however unable to avoid playing at the bottom of the ranking again at the start of the season. Like Marc Wilmots, he was therefore asked to leave at the end of September.

“Thank you to the fans”

A little less than a year after his arrival, Geraerts therefore found himself free from any contract and although he was once mentioned at Anderlecht, it quickly became apparent that he would not be the successor to Brian Riemer, who was ultimately David Hubert.

“Now that things have settled down a bit, I would like to take the time to thank from the bottom of my heart the incredible Schalke fans for their unwavering support during my time at this legendary club,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Share the same passion”

“Together we experienced beautiful moments, but also difficult moments. We shared the same passion and dedication for this team and I will never forget this bond,” adds Geraerts.

The coach who does not forget those with whom he worked during this period: “I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the players, the coaching team and each member of the association’s staff. Your work hard work, your commitment and your belief in this team meant a lot to me. It was an honor to work with such talented and passionate people.”

“And finally, I would like to thank my family from the bottom of my heart. Your unconditional support and understanding throughout the ups and downs of this journey have been my greatest strength. Without you, none of this would have been possible,” he writes.

Before concluding: “Schalke is a club with a proud tradition, and I am sure that you will soon be back where this club should be: at the top. I will always keep this period in my heart and I wish you and to the whole team, all the best for the future.”
