The Mexican badminton team concluded its participation in the Peru International Series 2024 with an outstanding performance, achieving a gold and a bronze medal. This tournament, held in Lima, took place over three days of intense competition, where Mexican athletes demonstrated their skill and determination on the court.

The Peru International Series, also known as the Peru Future Series, is an international badminton tournament that has been held in Peru since 2015. Organized by the Peruvian Badminton Sports Federation and endorsed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Pan Am ., this event was held for the first time from February 19 to 22, 2015 at Sports Center 2 of the High Performance Center of the National Sports Village, in Lima.

This tournament is considered the second most important in Peru, after the Peru International. In 2018, the event was reclassified as a BWF Future Series category tournament. However, in 2022 it was promoted again to the BWF International Series category, and in 2023 it was scheduled to host an event.

The gold medal was obtained by the mixed doubles couple, Luis Armando Montoya and Miriam Rodríguez

In an exciting final match, they defeated Brazilians Fabricio Farías and Jaqueline Lima with a close score of 2-1, which included sets of 21-15, 17-21 and 21-18. This win not only highlights their individual talent, but also their ability to work as a team under pressure.

Before reaching the final, Montoya and Rodríguez showed an impressive performance by beating hosts José Guevara and Inés Castillo in the semifinals with a resounding 21-15 and 21-11. Furthermore, in the previous round, they got rid of the Brazilian couples Izak Batalha and Jeisiane Alves (21-13, 21-11) and Matheus Voigt and Tamires Santos (21-5, 21-6), which demonstrates their dominance in the tournament.

On the other hand, the bronze medal was won by Vanessa García in the women’s individual category. García reached the semifinals but was eliminated by Canadian Chloe Hoang, who won with a score of 2-0 (21-15 and 21-17).

Hoang’s victory was significant as she became the tournament champion

In the men’s individual field, Luis Montoya also participated, but was eliminated in the semifinals by the Israeli Misha Zilberman, who was crowned champion. His teammate Armando Gaitán failed to advance beyond the quarterfinals, being surpassed by Guatemalan Kevin Cordon.

Successful participation in international tournaments is crucial for the development of sport in the country. The achievements obtained in Lima are a reflection of the hard work and dedication that the athletes have invested in their training.

The Mexican Badminton Federation has been working to promote the sport nationally and internationally, which has led to greater visibility and opportunities for athletes.
