RIP Tropicana Las Vegas. The legendary Strip hotel, inaugurated in 1957, is no longer part of the Las Vegas landscape. The hotel implosion was celebrated, lighting up the Las Vegas sky with an impressive drone and fireworks show, followed by the 22-second implosion of the Tropicana at 2:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday, October 9 .
It will be the state-of-the-art A’s Ballpark, a world-class entertainment destination in partnership with Bally’s Corporation (Bally’s Hotel) which will take the place of the Tropicana. “Bally’s is honored to have participated in this historic moment, bidding farewell to the iconic Tropicana,” said Soo Kim, President of Bally’s Corporation. “As we celebrate his legacy, we plan to build a world-class entertainment complex, the future home of athletics, and strengthen Las Vegas’ sports identity as the ultimate sports and entertainment capital.”
The Tropicana Las Vegas has been a cornerstone of the Las Vegas Strip since its opening in 1957. Developed by Miami-based businessman Ben Jaffe, its luxurious South Beach-inspired architecture and tropical theme instantly pleased tourists, who renamed it “Tiffany of the Strip”. The Tropicana had the largest casino in Las Vegas at the time of its opening and has remained an iconic venue, representing the evolution of entertainment, luxury and gaming in the city for more than six decades. From its Rat Pack-era heyday and the glamorous Folies Bergère to today’s future home of the Athletics and state-of-the-art entertainment complex of Bally’s Corporation, the Tropicana’s history reflects the spirit of reinvention and excitement that defines Las Vegas.
