GABLE. HV71‘s Herman Träff received a match penalty for a tackle on Theo Lindstein.

The situation was not video reviewed – as there was no working television monitor in the Monitor ERP Arena.

– Then it is the decision on the ice that applies, says base referee Tomas Thorsbrink.

Strange scenes unfolded in Gävle when Brynäs received HV71.

A couple of minutes into the second period, Herman Träff brought down Brynäs player Theo Lindstein, who was not carrying the puck, and judging by replays, it was not entirely easy to determine whether the tackle hit the head or not.

On the ice, the judges made the assessment that it hit the head.

The monitor is broken

The problem?

They could not video review the situation – because the TV monitor in the Monitor ERP Arena was broken and only showed a blue screen.

– It is the decision on the ice that applies in such situations. The referees have no verbal contact with the Situation Room, says referee base Tomas Thorsbrink, who is on site in Gävle, to Sportbladet.

A couple of minutes later it was time again.

HV’s John Nyberg tackled Brynä’s Tyler Vesel.

Then the TV monitor suddenly worked, whereupon the referees reviewed the situation on video – and handed out another match penalty.

Won in overtime

But despite lots of chances in the power play, Brynäs couldn’t get a hole in HV and the visitors went up to a 3–1 lead.

But Brynäs came back and took the match to extra time.

There Bobby Trivigno decided with a solo goal and Brynäs took home the extra point.

– I had just entered the ice, had strong legs and took advantage of it. A nice victory for us, says Trivigno in TV4.
