How is the history between Atenas and Instituto

The Cordoban basketball classic in the National League, between Atenas vs Instituto, Instituto vs Atenas, is played again. After a “white” season (2023/2024) with Verde playing in the Argentine League, the General Bustos neighborhood team faces the Alta Córdoba team.

The first match of the 2024/2025 campaign will be on Monday, from 10:10 p.m., at the Structures Pretensa Atenas stadium, with television by TyC Sports. The classic duel was scheduled to be played at the Ángel Sandrín, but the Gloria stage is still under construction and has moved to another neighborhood.

It will be the 32nd confrontation between Atenas and Instituto in national competitions, such as the League, the Super 20, and also in the Argentine Club Championship o Transition League, 1984. Institute adds 20 winscontra 11 victories for Athens.

Precisely, the first duel in Córdoba was on September 2, 1984, for the Transition League, which Athens won 87 to 83. There were four victories in a row for the Green at the beginning of the National League. The last one was in 1986. In 1985 and 1987 they did not face each other. That year, the Alta Córdoba club was relegated.

Gloriosos and Griegos met again in the 2015/2026 season in the “modern era” of the League, after the promotion of Albirrojo. The first duel was October 2, 2015 and Instituto won 59-48, as a visitor.

Between October 15, 2016, in the match played at Orfeo (80-72), and March 11, 2018 (two seasons), the Alta Córdoba club won eight consecutive matches. In addition, Instituto won the last four classics, between January 10, 2021 and April 18, 2023.

The last time Athens won the classic was on October 13, 2021, 87-78, for the Super 20on the Quimsa court in Santiago del Estero. In the National League, the Green’s last victory was on November 8, 2019, 92-88, defined in overtime after equaling at 77.

The last classic was played on April 18, 2023, at the Sandrín Instituto, which was won 90-70. That season, Atenas was relegated to the Argentine League.
