Twenty-six-year-old Humbert did not give the winner of this year’s Roland Garros and Wimbledon a chance in the opening set and won it in 27 minutes. Alcaraz picked himself up in the second set, tied things up, and in the third set both players performed thrilling exchanges. In the end, the 21-year-old Spaniard did not finish the close battle and did not make it past the quarterfinals even on his fourth attempt in Paris.
Humbert will face Jordan Thompson in the quarterfinals. He lost the only mutual match with the Australian this year in Brisbane.
Alex de Minaur improved his prospects for advancing to the Tournament of Champions in Paris.
