The Humboldt University of Berlin (HU) welcomes its new students on October 14, 2024 with an enrollment ceremony in the Humboldt Forum in Berlin-Mitte. All first-year students, teachers and students are warmly invited. For the winter semester 2024/25, more than 7,700 students enrolled in the various departments at the HU.
For the first time, the matriculation ceremony will take place in the Humboldt Forum. Since 2021, the HU has been running the Humboldt Laboratory in the Humboldt Forum and is presenting the research projects of the clusters of excellence in the Berlin university network, the Berlin University Alliance (BUA), in an exhibition. During GDR times, HU matriculation ceremonies took place at the same location in the Palace of the Republic for many years.
From 2 p.m., students can find out about the various support offers at the HU for the start of their studies at the information market in the Schlüterhof of the Humboldt Forum and take part in exclusive free tours of the Ethnological Collection, the Humboldt Laboratory, the special exhibition and BERLIN GLOBAL. The ceremonial enrollment begins at 4 p.m. The HU President, Prof. Dr. Julia von Blumenthal, will welcome the students. This is followed by an interview with Prof. Dr. Hartmut Dorgerloh, General Director of the Humboldt Forum and himself a HU alumnus. Other guests this year are the student HU Olympians Leo Köpp (walking), Renée Lucht (judo), Christina Wassen (diving) and Martin Zwicker (hockey), who talk about their time in Paris and the challenges of a dual career as a student Top athletes will report.
The matriculation ceremony will also be broadcast on screens in the Schlüterhof streamed live on YouTube.
Information about studying at the HU
Since September 30, 2024, the general student advisory service at Humboldt University has been offering various online information events about studying at HU. The various institutes and faculties have also put together programs for their new students and teach subject-specific content. Offers from the respective student councils for their new fellow students are also communicated via social media.
