For the third consecutive year Ibiza will once again be one of the capitals of international badminton. The island will host the European Junior Championships. The team competition will be held from November 26 to 30 and the individual competition will be held from that same day, November 30 to December 5. The Spanish Badminton Federation has already announced the calls for these events and Ibiza is confirmed as one of the greatest powers in terms of training players, since there is a majority of volantistas pitiusos.
Ramón Rovira, Yaidel Gil, Joan Guasch, Marc Guasch, Carmén Jiménez, Macarena Izquierdo and Victoria Gutiérrez are mentioned in the call for the team competition. That is to say, there are a total of seven Ibizan athletes of the 14 named by the team.
The list for the individual competition also repeats many of these. Yaidel Gil will participate in the men’s singles and mixed doubles. Joan Guasch and Marc Guasch will do so in the men’s doubles. Carmen Jiménez and Macarena Izquierdo will be in the mixed doubles and women’s doubles, while Victoria Gutiérrez will also be selected for the mixed doubles.
There will also be an Ibizan presence among the technicians, including Vicent Martínez. The other coach will be Carlos Longo. These two will work alongside sports director Arturo Ruiz in the team competition; and for the individual competition, Salvador Franco, responsible for monitoring athletes with national projection, will join.
According to what they gathered from the Federation, the objective is to achieve medals in both competitions and there are many expectations in the doubles events, where work is being done especially by the Sports Area of the Federation.
More competitions
In addition to these competitions, it should be noted that Ibiza will also host the qualifying phase for the 2025 European Mixed Team Championship and also a new edition of the Spanish International under-15 and under-17.
Some quotes that confirm the island’s commitment to badminton, since in 2022 it hosted the Iberdrola Spanish International, the Spanish International under-15 and under-17 and the European Under-15 Championship. And in 2023, it hosted the Spanish Under-17 Championship, the Iberdrola Spanish International and the Spanish International Under-15 and Under-17, as far as Ibiza is concerned. These calls once again highlight the great work being done at the Technique Center, which has been achieving results for years in lower categories both nationally and internationally. It is now common for several of the Pitiusa athletes to be on the lists of the Spanish Federation to attend this type of championships. Furthermore, at Pitiús, young players are being given an alternative so that they continue to grow and increase their level.
