Ice hockey: Niederberger resigns as DEB vice-president – Sport

Former national player Andreas Niederberger is resigning from his position as Vice President of the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) with immediate effect. The 61-year-old gave personal reasons for the decision. “This step is not easy for me, as we were able to celebrate great successes such as the outstanding World Cup silver medal in 2023,” said Niederberger, who is responsible for sports in the association.

The former defender, who took part in four Olympic Games during his active career, played 210 international matches and became German champion five times with Düsseldorfer EG, has held the post since May 7, 2022. According to the DEB statutes, the vacant position on the DEB executive committee is to be filled by the remaining executive committee during the current term of office. The association is currently led by President Peter Merten and Vice Presidents Hauke Hasselbring and Marc Hindelang.
