GOTHENBURG. IFK Göteborg‘s women’s team set a superior attendance record – but lost their grip on league promotion.

A 3–1 lead became a 3–4 loss against Häcken after three goals by Bianca Hultbäck Nattland.

– It was great, says the match winner.

In practice, the women’s derby between IFK Göteborg and Häcken (the club’s so-called development team, the A team in the women’s league) was about a place in the elite top flight in 2024.

One Blåvitt against the second in the table from Hisingen, both on the same points at the top, attracted a large crowd to Valhalla IP in the penultimate round of division one south where the teams marched in to Soon Poseidon shines and bengal smoke.

A total of 3,072 spectators were in attendance and that made the summit meeting in the women’s third division the sixth largest audience match of the year in the women’s league game.

It was also by far a new crowd record for IFK Gothenburg’s ladies, who previously had 2,027 as the best crowd figure in the qualifier for division two against Örgryte 2021.

Despite the importance of the match, the game was open and entertaining in front of the packed stands.

With one foot in the elite

Isabella Svanström pushed in 1-0 (35) from distance, Häcken’s Bianca Hultbäck Nattland quickly responded with 1-1 (38) before Elsa Blomgren headed in 2-1 (41) via the hands of great Häcken goalkeeper Kajsa Wallem.

The blue-white ladies got off to a flying start in the second half. Substitute Amanda Edgren played forward and Isabella Svanström forced in 3–1 (46).

Elitetta loomed for Blåvitt’s ladies, who were also a post shot from Isabella Svanström from making it 4-1.

But Häcken came back. Quickly.

Bianca Hultbäck Nattland reduced, 2–3 (52) and shortly after (54) came 3–3 from FIlippa Thunell.

Two tired teams didn’t seem to be able to push and 3-3 looked like they would last out.

Then Bianca Hultbäck hit Nattland with her third goal of the day and headed in 4–3 in the 88th minute.

The large audience lit up Häcken

This means a big advantage for Häcken, who take over the table lead three points ahead of IFK Göteborg.

– We are a team that does not give up. It’s always fun to score a hat-trick in such an important match. I was just running around when I scored the 4-3 goal. It felt absolutely wonderful, says match winner Bianca Hultbäck Nattland.

What was it like playing in front of the big crowd?

– We were hated before the match. You heard some words and rhymes. But it was just fun. That made us light a little extra.

In the last round, IFK Göteborg will meet second-placed Ljungskile SK away from home. Häcken has superior rivals IK Rössö at home.

– We will most likely win, but we must not relax, says Bianca Hultbäck Nattland.

IFK Gothenburg coach Marcus Lantz:

– We became anxious and afraid. We became passive. This was the biggest game ever for our girls. In the future, they will take this with them as an experience.

– Häcken wins against Rössö, The promotion is done now. This was the final. It was cool, but it’s a bit hard now, says Lantz.

Two Hedge teams in the same series?

The hurdle team that won against IFK Göteborg is the club’s original women’s team. Häcken’s elite team in the women’s league plays on another license, formerly Kopparberg/Göteborgs.

– This victory was fantastic. Over time, we want to lie as high as possible without forcing anything. The closer our teams get to each other, the easier it is for us to nurture our own talents, says sports director Martin Ericsson.

Theoretically, the teams can end up in the same series?

– Yes, they probably would, but there is no inherent value in that for us, says Ericsson.

According to GP, the Swedish Football Association has started an investigation to arrive at clearer rules if an association that administers two teams can play against each other in the same series.
