RSC Anderlecht ultimately chose to appoint David Hubert as permanent head coach after the dismissal of Brian Riemer. Initially, Ryan Mason seemed to be on his way to the Purple & White, but a turnaround led to a surprising outcome.
Imke Courtois said in the past that it would not be wise for Anderlecht to appoint Hubert as T1 and she has not yet changed her mind. Courtois spoke to The Sunday about the situation.
Anderlecht made fun of
Does Courtois think that Hubert is a better choice than top candidate Mason? She even calls Anderlecht’s thinking ridiculous. “Now, considering the English candidate Ryan Mason, who does not know the Belgian competition and is even younger and less experienced than Hubert, it would even be ridiculous not to choose Hubert.”
Yet Courtois fears for Hubert’s future. “The previous arguments that they did not want to ‘burn’ Hubert were equally ridiculous. Although I maintain that, even though Hubert made such a good impression, there is a risk if expectations turn out to be too high. Because the group of players still lacks the quality for title ambitions.”
Fans are clear
Anderlecht’s supporters are already clear. In their opinion, Hubert’s permanent appointment is a good choice. The 33-year-old Mason is inexperienced and does not know the Belgian competition.
Hubert knows the JPL and Anderlecht and also achieved relatively good results. According to Courtois, Wouter Vandenhaute also listened to the fans. “In any case, it must have played a role. In any case, I sincerely wish Hubert success.”
