When England talks about Thomas Tuchel, one term comes up again and again: “Rulebreaker”. The name goes back to a keynote speech by Tuchel when, as Bundesliga coach of FSV Mainz 05, he spoke about breaking out of routine at a conference of the future institute “2b Ahead” a decade ago. A biography of Tuchel was later named that and was published in England under the same title. In his first sentence, Tuchel mentioned that he also owed his professional career as a coach to a “rulebreaker”, the Mainz manager Christian Heidel. Immediately before the start of the 2009 season, he had entrusted the job to his A-youth coach Tuchel without any Bundesliga experience.
