Swiss team championship: Brugger judokas face an exciting final four

In the second half of the season on October 19th, the tide turned for the Ju-Jitsu and Judo Club Brugg and the Judo Club Uster took over the lead in the table. It continues in Geneva in November.

According to a statement from the Ju-Jitsu and Judo Club Brugg, the final round of the Swiss Judo Team Championship took place on October 19th. Brugg traveled as league leader to the duel in Uster ZH against the second-placed Judo Club Uster. “Both teams had already qualified for the Final Four, but the prestigious question was about who would move into the final round as the front runners.”

The encounter started promisingly for Brugg. The record champions narrowly won the first half of the season with a 4-3 win. But in the second half of the season the tide turned. Of all people, veteran Ciril Grossklaus (weight class -100 kilograms) became the deciding factor when he surprisingly lost. Since the hosts also retained the better end in the lightweight category (-60 kilograms), Brugg had to lose the second half of the season with 2:5, which meant that Uster took the lead in the table by a tiny margin.

The semi-final pairings for the Final Four on November 9th in Geneva have now been determined. Brugg will face third-placed Club Judo Kwai Lausanne. Uster will face defending champions Team Genève, who finished the main season in fourth place.

“The starting position promises to be very exciting, as all four teams are strong,” it says in the statement. “Brugg, who was recently runner-up twice, naturally wants to win back the crown.”
