A real recognition…
A real recognition for the 38-year-old Béarnais, appointed teacher of the <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2024/06/coarraze-nay-judo-club-receives-valid-disabled-label-and-bronze-label-for-excellence/” title=”Coarraze-Nay Judo Club Receives "Valid-Disabled" Label and "Bronze" Label for Excellence”>Coarraze-Nay Judo club, holder of a state certificate as a sports instructor with an option for judo and ju-jitsu, without forgetting the adapted sport approval.
A 4th dan black belt, Baptiste Dupont was until now an international referee at European level only but aspired to be able to referee on five continents. To obtain this new diploma, he passed more than 96% of the tests which were imposed on him, as well as around ten other European candidates, in Pitesti in central Romania, during September.
Next world goal
After a long journey by bus, train and plane, he was evaluated there by a jury for three days. After theoretical reminders of arbitration, he moved on to the study of concrete examples and practical situations. A brand new graduate, Baptiste Dupont was able to referee an international competition on the last day, where 21 countries from Europe, the Middle East and Africa were represented.
Baptiste Dupont, convinced that a good referee must know and practice ju-jitsu well, to have a feeling for the fight and to correctly award points and penalties, confesses to having worked enormously to perfect his English and to having devoted a lot of time practicing his sport. Passionate, “lucky” to be supported by his family and by the leaders of the Coarraze-Nay Judo club.
His next goal is to participate in the next 2025 World Championships in Thailand, then to obtain the supreme diploma of “World A Referee” after 2 to 3 years of refereeing in category B.
Referee and athlete!
From the end of October, Baptiste Dupont will be in Heraklion in Crete to participate in the 2024 world championships. The first day he will fight in his age category M1 (veterans), in less than 94 kg, in the ju-jitsu combat specialty. He will then continue 2 weeks of competitions to referee the youth and adult world championships.
