Judo, Moldova leads the first day of competition, excellent performance by the Azzurri

The 28th edition of the <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/12/the-great-international-judo-arrives-in-alghero/” title=”The great international judo arrives in Alghero”>Riviera del Corallo Trophy, an international men’s team competition, is underway at the dojo in via Kenndy. Impeccable organization by the Arti Marziali Sardegna sports club which welcomed the delegations from Italy, Hungary, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Moldova and Romania with warmth and enthusiasm for a total of over 50 athletes who arrived in recent days. In the sports hall in via Kennedy, sports enthusiasts, enthusiasts, the curious and the many athletes of the Judo Club Alghero.

The first day of competition sees Moldova at the top of the rankings with judoka Denis Vieru, an Olympic champion who competes in the weight category up to 66 kilograms, who wins all the matches played. First meeting at 3pm today 19 October, with introductory greetings from the mayor of Alghero Raimondo Cacciotto who participated with interest in the first day of the competition together with the president of the city council Beniamino Pirisi. The competition judges, chaired by Silvia Saba and Kaendra Lai, led the series of matches that continued until 6.45pm. The final score highlights the excellent performance of the Azzurri, in second position after Moldova, who won three sets of matches led by coach Luca Poeta. Two victories for Portugal who competed with strong determination, Spain and Hungary follow with 1 victory, Poland and Romania in last place.

Among the guests of the Riviera del Corallo Trophy Raul Camacho Perez, Fijlkam referee, first in the world ranking, called up for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and known for his balance and passion. During the evening, the Star of Sports Merit was awarded to Maestro Gavino Piredda, one of the few managerial gold stars awarded by Ansmes Sardegna.

The seven European teams will continue their matches tomorrow morning after the parade of nations scheduled for 9.45am. Only at the end of the competitions will the coveted trophy created by Agostino Marogna’s goldsmith shop be awarded.
