Judo stars in an intense weekend with the celebration of the 51st edition of the Raúl Calvo Memorial

The City of Cádiz Complex witnessed the different competitions.

The event has brought together more than 700 athletes from the different international and regional teams, provincial and Andalusian clubs and a combined Armed Forces

The Ciudad de Cädiz Sports Complex hosted this weekend the 51st edition of the International Tournament Raúl Calvo Memorialthe XXXIV Edition of the Carlos Clavo Chozas Tournament, as well as the Spanish Children’s Championship. Some events which have brought together more than 700 athletes in the city.

From the Spanish Judo Federation, Carmen Calvo conveys her enthusiasm for carrying out a new edition after last year’s celebration of the memorial’s golden anniversary and recognizes that in this edition there is a high level of competition.

With two World Championship medals (2015, silver; and 2017, bronze) and an Olympic diploma in Rio de Janeiro 2016, María Bernabeu was able to enjoy a master class with a hundred students of all ages on Saturday afternoon. The Olympic judoka values ​​it as “a luxury to be able to share the values” of this sport together.

More representatives of the Spanish Judo Federation have also been present. The vice president, Fermín Parra, details that the different federations and clubs “try to maintain the memory of Raúl Clavo” and recognize that “the memorial is worthy of the person to whom it is addressed, he explains.

In addition, a Judo Festival was held on Sunday in parallel with the main competition. It has been a special day for the smallest of the Cádiz clubs. This event has allowed young athletes to enjoy recreational and educational activities. The organization has sought to promote the values ​​of respect, effort and camaraderie that are pillars of judo.
