Judo thrives in Bocage Bressuirais

The day of Saturday October 12 was very busy in the multisport hall of the <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2023/10/coupe-de-france-general-brawl-and-urine-in-the-locker-room-stormy-end-of-match-between-niort-and-bressuire/" title="Coupe de France: general brawl and urine in the locker room, stormy end of match between Niort and Bressuire“>Métayer stadium in Bressuire transformed into a giant dojo. A jujitsu course with an international standard, an activity with two hundred and thirty chicks and youngsters and a Brazilian jiu-jitsu open mat punctuated this day punctuated by the general assembly of the Bocage Bressuirais Judo club. A real marathon to end the 2023-2024 season.

What stands out is the commitment of the volunteers. It’s a real success

Luc Grimault, president

“The club is doing well with four hundred and ten licensees at the end of a season where we had two bronze medals at the French championships, for Maélyne Wandji in D1, the highest national level, and Sébastien Gallas in Brazilian jiu-jitsu”, explains Luc Grimault, its president.

« In terms of staff numbers, there has been no change in the territory in our six sections (Bressuire, Courlay, Mauléon, Moncoutant, Cerizay and Nueil-les-Aubiers)continues the manager. On the educator side, we had the arrival of Axel Berthelot (ex-D1 judoka now director of the Jean-Moulin school in Cerizay). »

Good news that the financial deficit (€11,000 on a budget of €180,000) could have tarnished – but that is not the case. “We can easily explain this result by purchasing a minibus with our own funds for €37,000”, analyzes Luc Grimault.

« We manage to finance our sports project after a season where the club celebrated its 60th anniversary in the presence of Jean-Michel Baraton (89 years old), our first black belt in 1966. What is remarkable is the commitment of the volunteers . It’s a real success. »

As proof of this good health, the elections to the steering committee saw seven starters in the outgoing third for nine new candidates. Not everyone could be elected due to the club’s statutes increasing the number of positions to twenty-one.

“There is no volunteer crisis at the club », rejoices the president who wishes “take each young person to the highest possible level before supporting them in suitable structures such as poles”.
