The construction of a future Comprehensive Development Center for Youth in Barrio Panamá de Santa Cruz, <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/bahia-del-sol-a-wellness-destination-in-costa-rica-with-everything-facing-the-sea/" title="Bahía del Sol, a wellness destination in Costa Rica with everything facing the sea”>Guanacaste, will serve as one of the great sports quarries of the province because this infrastructure will function as a permanent training point for the athletes who are part of it. of the Santacruceña Sabanero Judo Sports Association.
The construction plans for that Center are in the final stretch to continue with the next phases of the Center that is promoted by the Fundación Acción Joven, Desarrollo Humano Estratégico, Entre Nos Atelier Central and the Municipality of Santa Cruz.
According to Ronny Gómez, Sensei of Judo Sabanero, this sports project was founded in 2012 in Santa Bárbara de Santa Cruz in order to offer opportunities for youth to practice a sport and stay away from social scourges such as crime.
“This new Center will be essential to promote sports throughout the canton of Santa Cruz because it will offer an ideal infrastructure that will allow us to promote new values that represent us in national and international competitions,” said Gómez.
The Judo Sabanero Association – which currently has 70 members and operates free of charge – has carried out its sports project in towns in Santa Cruz such as Guaitil, Lagunilla, Ostional, 27 de Abril and even in Belén de Carrillo.
“The Center will have the necessary facilities to practice the discipline because, there it will be possible to train in the best conditions for the 70 athletes who currently form Judo Sabanero; But in addition, much more young people could benefit because we would have a fixed space with great advantages even for the population with special needs. That is a huge advantage because it will surely raise the level of competition thinking about future tournaments,” Gómez highlighted.
Great harvest
In the last international presentation in the Naco Cup in Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, those who make up Judo Sabanero won seven medals (four bronze and three silver) in a tournament where they participated with 13 young people.
“We are very excited about this new project in Santa Cruz that undoubtedly marks a before and after in the sports history of our canton,” said Sensei Gómez.
For his part, José Aguilar, Founder of Acción Joven, highlighted that the Center’s efforts have “advanced in an extremely satisfactory manner so that it can very soon become a reality and we begin to see the fruits in favor of the new generations of Santa Cruz.”
“We all know very well that sport is a very important tool to form good citizens; For this reason, we have incorporated this aspect into the project and what better way to do it than by adding an ally like Judo Sabanero who has already been working locally in this field for more than 10 years with great results,” declared Aguilar.
The Center’s facilities in Barrio Panamá de Santa Cruz will be built on a three thousand square meter plot of land donated by the Professor of the University of Costa Rica, Xinia Picado.
