Jürgen Klopp‘s move to Red Bull is heating up people’s minds. Now the fans of Mainz 05, where the successful coach began his career, are also expressing their displeasure. In the game against RB Leipzig, Mainz are sending clear messages to the club icon.
Jürgen Klopp started his world career in Mainz. Now, of all people, the Rheinhessen fans were protesting against their club idol’s new job. They indirectly accuse Klopp of treason. During Mainz’s game against RB Leipzig, fans held up a poster that read: “Klopp: ‘I like people until they disappoint me.’ Are you crazy?” Klopp made this statement at an event on the podcast “In the head of the coach – Bundesliga coach in an interview” two months ago.
Another banner in the fan stand also read: “You have forgotten everything we let you have?” Before kick-off, Mainz sports director Christian Heidel was asked in an interview with “Sky” whether the Red Bull -Job could damage Klopp’s monument in Mainz, replied: “Oh dear God. Anyone who thinks about it in any way has a plank in front of their head.”
Klopp played in Mainz for eleven years and then coached the club from 2001 to 2008. In the summer, the 57-year-old quit as manager after nine years at Liverpool FC and announced a break from his coaching job. As of January 1, 2015, he will now take over football strategic tasks at Red Bull as “Head of Global Soccer”. This was heavily criticized by fans in Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, where he was coach from 2008 to 2015.
Rose is looking forward to Klopp at Red Bull
Marco Rose had welcomed the commitment of his former Mainz coach as head of football at Red Bull. “I look forward to it. I think being able to use his expertise, his experience, his charisma, his network and try to be successful together. “It’s a good story for everyone here,” said the RB Leipzig coach before the game at 1. FSV Mainz 05, which Leipzig won 2-0.
Rose remembers her time in Mainz clearly. “It was a very special time we had together. A great community, a great group, we have created something special in Mainz. We are very proud of it, so we all still have a lot of contact,” said Rose, who always had a direct line to Klopp. “We saw each other, heard each other, wrote to each other and of course supported each other. Now he will do that in his new role here at the club.”
